Mazbou Q is an Aotearoa New Zealand–based hip hop artist, producer and educator of Igbo-Nigerian heritage. His music sits at the crossroads of hip hop, metal, jazz and African rhythmic traditions, driven by a deep obsession with flow, musical feel and genre-blurring production. Through his work, Mazbou Q explores identity, culture and social consciousness, using rhythm as both a creative tool and a language in its own right.

Also known as “The Rap Scientist,” he has developed a rhythm theory–based framework for analysing rap flow, exploring concepts like polymetricism, micro-timing and displacement. His work has gained recognition across both industry and academia, leading to guest lectures at institutions including Harvard University, Berklee College of Music and New York University.

In 2025, Mazbou Q was named a Top 5 finalist for the Silver Scroll Award, recognising his strength as a songwriter alongside his technical innovation. In 2026, he delivered a keynote and performance at the European Hip Hop Studies Conference, further cementing his position at the intersection of hip hop practice and scholarship.

Beyond his solo work, Mazbou Q is the lead producer at UNCHAINED XL Production Co., with credits spanning global brands including MGM, ESPN, Footlocker and Les Mills.Whether on record, on stage or in the classroom, Mazbou Q approaches hip hop as both a science and an art form; challenging conventions, expanding the language of flow, and inspiring a new generation of artists to engage with rhythm at a deeper level.
