Following a triumphant return to stages worldwide in 2023/24 - with sold-out shows across Europe, North America and Australasia - The Veils are set to bring their electrifying live show back to Australia this November in celebration of their acclaimed seventh studio album, Asphodels.

Recorded live to tape over five intense days at Roundhead Studios in Aotearoa New Zealand, Asphodels captures the raw immediacy and emotional depth that have defined The Veils’ career, distilled into nine striking new tracks.

Frontman Finn Andrews describes the record as a culmination of a now “disconcertingly long career in music,” arriving 20 years after the band’s debut album The Runaway Found. As always, I really just write about love and death - it’s a compulsion,” says Andrews. “But I feel as though I’ve never been able to express this stuff rattling about in my brain quite as directly until now… this one feels different. It’s built on a strong foundation.

Taking its name from the Ancient Greek flower of the Underworld, Asphodels draws lyrical inspiration from great poets such as Lorca, Ted Hughes, and Louis MacNeice. Central to the album’s striking sound is Andrews’ ongoing collaboration with string arranger Victoria Kelly, whose orchestrations behave like “another member of the band,” shaping the record’s emotional heart.

The Veils have toured consistently throughout their twenty-year history, garnering a formidable reputation as one of the world’s greatest live bands. Their work has also attracted the attention of acclaimed filmmakers Paolo Sorrentino, Tim Burton, and David Lynch, all of whom have featured the band’s music in their soundtracks.

Now, Australian audiences will get the chance to experience Asphodels live in all its sweeping, cinematic glory this November. With a career-spanning setlist and fierce, captivating stagecraft that has made The Veils an unmissable live act, these shows promise to be a rare and unforgettable chapter in the band’s story.
